Video Workshop

On February 10, 2011, in Video, by admin

The idea for this workshop is to come away with enough knowledge and information to tell your story using video. We will focus on the fundamentals of video production which no one has ever explained to you before. You will be amazed how easy it can be to produce simple, but compelling visual stories. The techniques are tried and true and once they are pointed out to you, you will not be able to watch television the same way again.

Lenny Ferreira will be teaching this hands-on video workshop. Lenny has over 15 years of video experience and has taught video production at BAVC. Not only will Lenny make this workshop informational but it will also be a very fun learning experience.

Topics that will be covered are:

  • What to look for when buying a camera and equipment
  • Camera operation
  • Resolutions – HD, SD, Web, 16×9, 4×3
  • Story boarding and concept development
  • Shooting and lighting techniques
  • Basic editing techniques with Final Cut Express
  • Understanding video websites and uploading content
  • Publishing to your website

The goal for this workshop is to create a collaborative environment which will foster creativity during class, as well as after. You should expect to work in teams of 2 or more. You are encouraged to get in front of the camera, as well as behind. By the end of this class, you will be have produced a short video that you can publish to your website or the web.

The class will be broken down into 2 days. The first day will cover story development, story boarding, and production, as well as cover the topics above. The Second day will be an optional post production day where you will have more time to finish your projects. This time is invaluable because this is where all the problems arise. We will all be there to work through them together!!

How to prepare for class? If you’ve got a camera and tripod, bring it! If you’ve got a laptop with your favorite editing software, bring it! Find videos you like and inspire us all. While we are at it, find videos you don’t like so we can learn from them!
